Sony just dropped their latest over-ear headphones — the WH-1000XM6 — and they’re looking better than ever. This new model builds on everything the Sony WH-1000XM5 did well, while also bringing back some fan-favorite features from the Sony WH-1000XM4, like the foldable design.
With stronger noise cancellation, clearer sound, smarter features, and a more comfortable fit, the XM6 is made for people who love great audio and quiet moments. Whether you’re commuting, traveling, or just need solid headphones for everyday use, the XM6 is a top pick.
What’s New in the Sony WH-1000XM6?
New QN3 Chip
The headline upgrade is the new QN3 processor. It’s seven times faster than the chip in the XM5, and that extra power is put to good use.
Insane Noise Cancelling
Sony packed 12 microphones into the XM6 to give you the best noise cancellation they’ve ever delivered.
Once you put these on, even loud environments just melt away. Whether you’re in an open office or on a plane, the silence is next-level.
Sound quality also gets a glow-up.
The audio is tuned by Grammy-winning engineers, and it really feels like it. You get rich bass, crisp vocals, and a full soundstage. With support for spatial audio and a 10-band equalizer, you can fine-tune the sound exactly how you like it.
Smarter Calls, Smarter Controls
Sony also upgraded the call quality on the XM6. There are now 6 beamforming microphones powered by AI, so your voice comes through clearly even in windy or noisy environments. It’s a big jump from the 4-mic setup on the XM5.
You’ll also notice a new power button that’s shaped differently from the others, making it easier to find by touch. These little design tweaks go a long way.
Listen while charging
You can now listen while charging. No more awkward silence when your battery runs low.
Portability Meets Comfort
One of the biggest changes is the return of the foldable design. Unlike the XM5, which had a fixed shape, the XM6 folds down nicely into a more compact case — perfect for travel or tossing in your bag.
Even the case got an upgrade. It’s slimmer and now closes with a magnetic flap instead of a zipper. It’s quicker to open and close, and somehow just feels better to use.
The headband is wider, and the ear cups feel softer and more flexible, making long listening sessions more comfortable. You can twist and tilt them in all directions, so they sit just right.
