Does the AI human/pet/baby-cry detection work without an internet connection or subscription?
Yes—completely. All AI processing happens locally on the camera itself. Human detection, pet tracking, and baby-cry alerts work 100 % offline once the camera is set up. Only cloud storage or remote viewing away from home needs internet.
Is the night vision really full-color or just the usual black-and-white?
It is genuine full-color at night as long as there is even a tiny bit of ambient light (street light through curtains, night lamp, etc.). In total darkness it switches to sharp infrared B&W using the 940 nm LEDs (no red glow). Most Nairobi users say they rarely see B&W because bedrooms and living rooms always have some light.
Can I use my own 256 GB microSD card or do I have to buy Xiaomi’s?
Any Class 10 or UHS-1 microSD card up to 256 GB works perfectly (SanDisk, Samsung, Kingston, etc.). Just format it to FAT32 in the app the first time. Loop recording overwrites oldest files automatically—no subscription needed.
Will the privacy shutter fully block the lens or can someone still hack and see?
